One of my favorite questions to lean into when negotiating anything is: “What’s the chance?”
As an executive leader, you thrive on making calculated risks and high-pressure decisions where negotiating is the difference between the life and death of your career.
But negotiating everything is exhausting.
Many will shy away from negotiating for what they need because it’s tiring, uncomfortable, too risky, or the value isn’t predictably clear.
However, adding “What’s the chance?” to your negotiation toolkit is a risk-free game-changer, especially in everyday negotiations that you usually wouldn’t go into try-hard negotiation mode on.
(Such as asking for a room upgrade at a hotel or winning a better rate for non-work related services.)
You can casually unearth hidden opportunities by simply asking, “What’s the chance?”
- What’s the chance I can get a discount here?
- What’s the chance you’re open to discussing severance?
- What’s the chance you have a complimentary upgrade on that ocean view room?
Try it this week, and share your wins with me.
Stay fearless, friends.
See you next week.
